About the Author
Carol Schmidt, who holds degrees in Art and English from Virginia Commonwealth University and Longwood University, worked as an educator for nearly 30 years. 31 Celtic Inspired Coloring Designs – printed on one side of perforated paper

There seem to be two major styles of designs in the book: the first is geometric patterns which will be fun to color but which are not what I think of when I think Celtic. There are only a few of these designs. The second style is very antique looking Celtic-inspired vignettes and whirling and twirling designs that I look forward to coloring. Some of these designs have intricate parts but for the most part, they are detailed rather than small and should be fairly easy to color. There are a couple of designs that will be more difficult for those whose eyesight or fine motor control is compromised. There is also an almost gray scale type finish to some areas which actually remind me of pointillism as it is made up of tiny black dots. On the whole, I think it is a great book and will provide fun and some challenging designs to color and really appeals to that small part of Irish in my genetic make up.

The designs are printed on only one side of this good weight perforated paper. Creative Haven does an excellent job with their printing and their paper stock and I can count on them to be consistent. The binding is glued rather than sewn an pages are easily removed if you prefer to do so. The designs all stop well before the perforations so you won't lose any portion of the design if you remove it from the book. All of the designs have a framing line around them. I really appreciate when an artist does this as it gives me a natural stopping point and a more finished project when I am finished (not to mention saving me time and ink.)

All of my markers, both alcohol and water-based bleed through this paper to some degree. My gels pens leave a color shadow on the back of the page but don't leak completely through to the following page. My coloring pencils work well as usual for Creative Haven paper and behave as I would expect depending on whether their core is soft or hard. I either remove pages before working on them or I put a blotter sheet under the page I am working on to keep ink from leaking through to the next page. My preference is chipboard but card stock, manilla folders, or several sheets of regular paper work as well. I will list the coloring medium that I test with in the comments section for anyone who is interested.

Very Nice Celtic Art Coloring Design Book for Teens and Adults

Recently got this for my teenage son. The book has some interesting designs and was nicely done. It comes with perforated pages, so you can display your work or store it away from the book.

It was a well done book with quality pages and was very nice. Even though the pages were very good, I would still recommend using a safety sheet underneath, if you're going to be using markers. He uses mostly pencils and the sheets are excellent for that.

I was a little disappointed by some of the designs. There are definitely some hard pictures in there to color. However I am looking forward to using it. Like that the designs are one sided, in case the ink flows through. For that I keep a piece of cardstock behind the page.

Oberst Kruger, head of the Gestapo's "Plunder Squad" and Tygo's commanding officer, is desperately searching for an invaluably rare red diamond, with which he will secure his safe passage and escape to Argentina. As they search an abandoned villa where the jewel is believed to be concealed, Tygo discovers a girl hiding out, with ties to the coveted gem. Meanwhile, with the Allied Liberation fast approaching, Hitler tries his last-ditch effort at winning the war—a top-secret weapon capable of destroying New York City that brings everything to an explosive head. Osborne's writing reads more like a Hollywood blockbuster film than a historical novel. While he creates an interesting blend of both historical figures and fictitious characters, they are, with slight exception in the protagonist, one-dimensional at best. The author manages to portray a few historical events but with a heavily fictitious slant that is both far-fetched and exaggerated. Indeed, the action never stops, but then neither does the sensationalism. Even Argentina's involvement and Germany's nuclear capabilities, aspects of World War II seldom represented in children's fiction, are not enough to save this title. About the Author

WINTER’S BULLET Captured Me From the First Page

He has one shot to stop the war. Can a ferret become a hero?

I love historical fiction. I love the feeling of being transported into another time period, another location, another world altogether. I can escape the mundanity of my current life and enter the mind of someone who is living differently than I am. However, sometimes it is easy to forget that characters living in another time period are human too; they are not superhumans, nor are they humans with extraordinary wit and power. If the book is aiming to create something realistic, than characterization must also be realistic. Otherwise, there is a risk of the book coming off as another genre altogether. WINTER’S BULLET by William Osbornewas a thrilling historical novel set in Nazi Germany, but the main characters in the book lacked realistic characterization.

WINTER’S BULLET captured me from the first page; the book opens with a young boy roller skating down a frozen canal in the dead of winter to get to work. How many times have you seen that happen? Descriptions of setting --- the weather, the houses, the people etc. --- brought the Netherlands during the German occupation to life. Osborne never goes overboard with descriptions that are too flowery; he gives just enough so readers understand what is going on but are left wondering what is outside of the small frame he provides us. His skill with detail kept me flipping the pages as fast as I could.

As I was reading, however, I found myself wondering about Tygo’s motives. As the above excerpt states, Tygo risks his life saving a girl he first met in a chimney. We know that Tygo lost his sister to the Germans, so perhaps he saved this stranger since he couldn’t save his own sibling.

Still, though, Tygo is (unwillingly) working for the Nazi party and knows the risks if he is found harboring someone who should have been captured by the Germans a long time ago. Plus, he doesn’t have anybody to help support him or to learn this behavior from; he lost both of his parents, as well.

Therefore, I had trouble believing that someone as young as Tygo would risk everything he has and a possible future opportunity to leave the Netherlands to save the life of someone he does not know. I wish Osborne had explored the reasons behind Tygo’s actions a bit more so I could better understand him as a character.

Overall, though, I thoroughly enjoyed reading WINTER’S BULLET As with any historical fiction, I felt like I was transported to the world of these characters and experiencing everything they were, and the writing style matched my taste. I would recommend this book to any historical fiction fanatic!

Too Rough

I know this was a swear word color book, but some of the words were really icky. I expected a lot of f-word, sh*t, etc. but not the C-word and derogatory gay slang. Art was fine is about best I could say. Guess this is something you want to be able to preview in person before ordering. I returned it.

Bad printing quality and homophobic slurs.

The printing is not good quality. Also anti gay slurs are just wrong. I thought it was just curse words, not racist/homophobic slurs. There are much better books out there.

Quality is lacking

This book has been printed with low resolution printing, and the images suffer for it. I've printed better images at home from my computer. For the cost of ordering something online, I expect the image quality to be much better, not something printed with an obviously low DPI.

Welcome Deviation from the Genre

Excellent story with a welcome deviation from the typical "heroic trio" that is so commonly found in the genre while still hitting many of the major themes(i.e. Family, friends, struggle for/with power).

This is one of the first truly unique stories I've in a very long time and I would encourage anyone to try it out.

Waiting a long time for this book!

This book is one of the best reads I have had in a long time. This is a book you start and don't finish until the end. It keeps you sucked in with wanting to know what happens next. Nothing is quite as you expect throughout the book. Will continue to recommend to anyone and everyone that is looking for something good to read.

A very intriguing introduction to a fascinating world!

For fans of the fantasy genre. The first book in a trilogy introduces us to a relatable character thrust into a new magical world where he must juggle finding his family and way home with new immediate threats of war, enemies, and prophecy. With an interesting magic system, dragons, and characters with their own unique paths, The Year of the Lumin is a worthy fantasy tale that left me wanting to learn more of this world and what is to come.

Stories of Men and Women on the Battlefields of WWI

This is an interesting view of various Americans, male and female, in Europe during WWI, some very well known, others less so, at times speaking in their own words. The book combines elements of history with biography and memoir with excerpts of letters written home by the soldiers, nurses, entertainers, aviators. Some traveled to the war zone well before the United States' entry into the conflict either in non-combatant roles or by joining the forces of other nations. Among the famous are the sons of Teddy Roosevelt, Hemingway, Buster Keaton, and two of the best baseball players of the time.

Along with the details of these lives, the author provides a very good amount of information on the start of the war, what it was like on the ground, the political landscape in the U.S. that impeded entry into the war and then forced it, and details of many battles. One of the portraits concerns a German soldier who documented his time at the front with photographs, some of which are included in this book. Now I have a much better idea of what the German trenches actually looked like--a far cry from those of their opposition.

I do recommend this book to anyone looking for another view into World War One---this one on a very human level. Although I have read other very learned and excellent books on the war's causes and progress, this book did give me a new, very personal insight into what life on the battlefield was like for many.

I loved this book from the preface where we learn what 12 idealistic young people were doing when Archduke Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated in Bosnia to the lives of each of these individuals during WWI. It's like "the rest of the story" coined by Paul Harvey. I also enjoyed
the diversity of the people Kerrie Hollihan presented. As it says in the sub title of her book, "the famous and forgotten". There is a scientist, cowboy, showgirl, comedian, sportsman, luggage porter, students, pilots, writers, a family, and one who becomes President of the USA. Well done Kerrie Hollihan.

Most Interesting Eyes

Hollihan describes the War to End All Wars from the perspective of many whose young lives were transformed by war, and who would go on to become well-known names. Meeting Buster Keaton and Ernest Hemingway as young men and seeing how battlefields may have influenced Middle-Earth for JRR Tolkien is nothing less than fascinating.

Okay right off the bat for some reason I really thought this book would have something to do with underwater creatures like Mermaids or maybe something else but it wasn't which was a surprise in a good way, the book had to do with a non-human race called Dewings the people of Atlantis.

Alison was a likable character. She knew she was different but nothing else. She has been thrown around in the foster system for most of her life with no clue on who her real parents are or why she is the way she is. She was once approached by a stranger warning her to stay below the radar and that someone was after her who wanted to use her special powers and because of that warning she became very reclusive, making sure to dress in a way that wouldn't draw any attention to her and just remaining friendless. I found Alison to be brave especially with everything thrown at her and I admired how she really cared about the people around her and was willing to do whatever it took to protect them.

As for the secondary characters I would have preferred them all to be a little more developed. I liked Ian the love interest, but same thing with him I wanted to dive a little deeper into who he was. Speaking of Ian the romance was there but it just kind of hung around in the background with little swoon moments here and there. This is actually one of those novels where I would love to see a second book to see how things progress with the two.

Alright now the evil guys. I think this is what made me drop my rating a little bit. To me the bad guys were just that bad...evil. I like my villains to be more complex with several layers to where even I hate them and feel some kind of emotion towards them. Then there was the ending in regards to the final face off between the good vs bad, it all just happened rather quickly and I found it to be a little anticlimactic.

Overall Atlantis Rising was an enjoyable read, even with the few issues I had there is so much more I want to know about the world since I felt there was a lot of unanswered questions when it comes to the people of Atlantis that I'm hoping there will be a second book.

fantastic start to a new author!!

My First reaction to this book is don't always listen to reviews. LOL Yes, as you read my review I am telling you not to listen to me. Giggle. But here's why. The first few review posted weren't that great. And I almost didn't request a review copy because of it. Well, they lied. LOL No, they just have a different opinion than me. Because I actually loved this story. Because it's not what you're thinking. I know I automatically see the cover, hear Atlantis, and think mermaid, but maybe not. :) It's not like anything else because it's something no one really touches on, and yet has variations of everywhere. But anyways. Let me tell you why I liked it. :)

So Alison is our leading lady. She's always felt different even as a child. But as an adopted child, she also knew that she was someone else's child, though she loves the McKyes because they were so good to her when no one else was. And now, some things are happening to her and around her, and she will do anything and everything to keep the McKyes ignorant and safe at all costs. And then, of course, she meets Brandi and Ian, the new kids in school, and they just won't go away. Ian is like everywhere. Seriously, he's almost creepy. And Brandi, you can't help but love her, but Alison doesn't understand why they are trying so damn hard to be her friend. it's high school, she's trying to hide, and these two kids won't stop popping up everywhere. Well, along with Alison, Brandi and Ian have secrets as well, and it's gunna blow Alison's mind. Like really, she faints a few times if I'm not mistaken due to the crazy being revealed. LOL

Alison is a wonderful character, but I found myself loving the side characters as much, if not more that her. Not that Alison isn't lovable. But Brandi is hilarious. Ian is broody, yet funny. Lillian is scary but you just wanna hug her. And even Ian's parents, I loved them. I also loved Alison's adopted family. Her mom's horrible cooking is just laughable, her little brother is so typical, and a wonderful dad just completes the circles.

The world building is a normal day high school, but it's the plot and character creations that win here. All of the past of the Atlanteans, and how their world became to be. I loved the writing style as well. I do seriously hope this will turn into a series. It has a full ending, that will probably make you cry like I did, but I still want more. I want to see the full HEA happen :) With that, I will say I am going to hope for another book, and give you a 5 PAWS!!

Not what I was expecting, sadly.

All month I have been in a rather large reading slump (I’ve only really read two or three books xP) and sadly Atlantis Rising did NOT help that at ALL.
What I Liked:

There is so much thought behind everything when it comes to the dewings. Their world, the names of what they can do, and how they think/act is quite well thought out. So there goes all my applause!
Maybe if I wasn’t in such a reading slump I would have enjoyed this more XP

What I Didn’t Like:

There was so much talking. SO MUCH! The dialog had a HUGE part of the story and I wished it was more actiony.
I didn’t really like any of the characters, not really. I kind of sympathized with Alison because she was quiet and reserved (for a reason) but I had that in common with her.
Looking at the cover and reading the inside of the cover I thought this book would be more creepy. I thought that there were evil mermaids or threatening sea creatures who looked like humans but that wasn’t what I got at all. I think I was just mostly upset because of that, I really wanted Atlantis Rising to be more creepy and intense (which it wasn’t D: )
I always love a thought bad guy that’s hard to take out. In Atlantis Rising they took out the main bad guy in about one chapter, that was the first time they even came face to face with him. I know he was evil because of what he was doing but I didn’t feel his evilness radiating off him or anything. The final battle was, in my opinion, a bit disappointing.

Overall:

I really don’t want to scare people away from this book because this is just my opinion doesn’t mean it will be yours! I suggest people still give it a try (I was in a book slump after all, if I wasn’t perhaps I might have enjoyed it more!) Atlantis Rising wasn’t what I was expecting and it didn’t quite meet my expectations but maybe it’ll meet yours.

This is a very fun book to read with a lot of adventure in it. Little ones just love the play on words and are tickled by the contents in the car. It is a book that has some delightful expression and one that children can relate to easily because of the main character being a Granny.

That’s what I like best about this approach

Mary Anne's still the same loveable person!

I liked how Ann brought Sunny & Mary Anne together! And yes, Mary Anne is getting new plots (NOT a new boyfriend, which is good). Her heart has just about healed from Logan;I'm glad Ann didn't latch her onto another boyfriend like so many other series would have done. I liked that she joined the yearbook in a previous book & she's doing more things. It's so heartwarming that her house has been re-built & she & her family move back in. I loved the descriptions; I felt as if I were right there with Mary Anne & my heart just warmed for her. She's been through so much pain & suffering in her life & it's good that she's happier now & at peace. She deserves peace & happiness; she's such a good, courageous person! I liked how she sensed that Sunny was still hurting from losing her mom, even though Sunny was hiding her pain under a facade of cheerfulness & she comforted Sunny, even when Dawn got mad at Sunny. It was funny how when the girls snuck off to New York City, Mary Anne felt so guilty. I was sooo sure that she was going to break down & fess up! I'm surprised that she didn't. The ending was gave such a sense of peace & closure & I'm glad that Mary Anne's feeling peaceful these days.

A moving conclusion ....

After several months of sorrow, pain, and fear, Mary Anne finally grounds herself. She discovers where she belongs, and she feels a sense of peacefulness again.
After loosing her home, (and everything she owns) in a fire, Mary Anne feels lost. I'm glad that she has regained some self-assurance.
I disagree with the reviews below me on how Mary Anne should have "moved on." You never get over something like that entirely. It was very realistic to create three books in this series on her situation. (Four if you count the BSC series) If Ann wrapped up this plot to quickly, her character wouldn't have gone through the grieving process of loosing her home realistically.
In #131 of the BSC series, you saw Mary Anne shocked because she's lost her home, but she's numb. She doesn't really feel that pain until the end of the story. In #3 and #8 in the Friends Forever series, she's trying to get over that shock.
#11 concludes the fire. It's put out in her mind, at least for now. She finally feels as if she's gone home. I look forward to reading more about Mary Anne Spier. Meanwhile, I also enjoyed how Sunny Winslow was tied into this book from the California Diaries series. It was like Ann tied in two main plot lines from two different series and put them both into one story. I too lost my mom to cancer (in fact she died a month before the book where Sunny's mom passes is puplished), so I can relate.
Good job Ann Martin for a touching ending to this plot and for Sunny's story to be brought in as well. I look forward to reading more about both of your strong characters.

I TOTALLY recommend this book for people that like Sunny, Dawn, and the rest of the BSC friends Forever series. in thsi book, Mary Anne has finally moved in to her new house, and Dawn is coming to Stoneybrook with Sunny, the best friend of Dawn's that's mother died from Lung cancer. Again, read this book. It's touching, and finally, u get a picture of Dawn and Sunny! (LoL!)
