The attacking planes dropped bombs and torpedoes and rained gunfire down on them. On the USS Arizona, enemy bullets instantly killed every band member on deck. Explosions rocked the entire ship, causing the conning tower to sink into the ship’s hull. Raging fires spewed putrid black smoke into the skies above her. The USS Arizona sunk to the bottom, killing almost every man on board. As she lay in ruins on the bottom of the harbor, the remainder of the fleet was fighting for survival. Caught off guard by the surprise early-morning attack, they desperately tried to fight back. It was December 7, 1941, a “date that will live in infamy.” Where’s our air support? thought Christopher. Are they attacking our airfields as well? Just last night, Wags told him the planes were lined up wing to wing to prevent sabotage. If the Japanese attacked the airfields as well as the harbor, there would be no planes to help them. The bombs would set off a chain reaction on the airfields, leaving nothing but burning planes and fuel. They were all sitting ducks, completely unprepared for the ongoing enemy air assault. The last time he saw Kevin, Brian, and BJ, they were racing toward their battle stations amid the chaos and confusion. Had they made it safely? Or were they among the bodies lying on the bloody, splintered deck below him? What about Wags, Will, and Jack? Did they survive the initial onslaught at the airfields? About the Author
A lawyer by trade, the author was an Assistant Prosecutor and Trial Section supervisor during her 25 year career at the Essex County Prosecutor's Office in Newark, New Jersey, trying over 150 cases during her career. On October 1, 2006, her stepson, LCpl. Christopher B. Cosgrove III was killed by a suicide bomber at a checkpoint in Iraq. Searching for a way to honor his memory and sacrifice, she remembered his love of history and the military and decided to author a time travel adventure series about the major military battles in history, beginning with D-Day, with Christopher being the main character. She knew Christopher would love to live on teaching children about the sacrifices made by our military to keep them free. Christopher understood that history could be boring, but if taught properly children would love it. By making him a character in an historical fiction time travel adventure series, Christopher teaches them the history in a fun and exciting way, without making them bored. She hopes the children will become interested enough to read some of the books referenced in the book to learn much more about the battles.

This is an excellent series that connects students to the battles and gives them realistic insight into the lives of the soldiers that participated. I have a 6th grade student who is totally hooked.

and I loved those books

As a kid, I used to read Alfred Hitchcock and the three investigators, and I loved those books. Looking back, I thought they exercised my mind really well, so I was looking for something of a slightly younger age bracket for my daughter who is 11. In my opinion, this book is absolutely perfect for a parent looking for an interesting book. As it involves murder, I do recommend that you sit with them and explain it to them a little bit at the start. The book itself is not overly long, and the language is not overly complex - but complex enough to help them learn. Will buy the next chapter when it comes out.

I have never spent my time reading a children book, but this one grabs my attention. What we have here is a new idea that the author has managed to put in place somehow for children to read. No images needed in each corner of the book to portray certain scenes in the story. Victoria, the author, knows how to push children to think and work their imagination with only words. This is a literary work. I recommend this work to children who love detective and mystery plots. Most children can learn from the languages and that will push their imagination to work well. WELL DONE!

Even I was pretty entertained!

I'm in my late 20s and my friend asked me to recommend a children's book mystery theme. I picked this but had to check this out myself before making the recommendation. Turns out I was entertained too! It's a great story although I find it a little bit advanced for a 7 year old. It isn't a long book though and it ends with a cliffhanger making it even more exciting. I'll update this if my friend's kid wants to check out the continuation! I won't lie though... I want to read it!

The accompanying illustration, straying from the original plot, now shows only an empty cradle in the treetop. Here Baby's adventure truly begins. From crow's nest to pig's back, Baby joyously ricochets throughout a farm with a variety of barnyard animals and then onto a boat and over a waterfall. Lovely new take on a classic lullaby

This adorable book is perfect for reading (or singing!) a little one to sleep. It is written to the rhythm of "Rock-a-bye Baby" and has 9 verses that tell the tale of an adventurous baby who falls from his cradle and meets a crow, rides a pig, crawls into a barn, and floats down a river and over a waterfall. Of course by the end, the story concludes with the baby back home and the verse, "Sweet little Baby, rocking with me- Who'd put a cradle high in a tree? Babies in trees are fine in a song... But you, little one, are where you belong." I just love that- a perfect, calm ending to an adventurous tale.

The illustrations are dreamlike- a perfect companion to the dreamy story.

Absolutely adore this book. My 2.5 year old son and I sing it often before nap and bed. It is so cute and a refreshing twist to the traditional version. He even sings it along with me. Highly suggest this book!

A fun-filled book for everyone, not only for children

This is the second book I have read now by Billy Miner.

And, as the first book was, I have really loved the wonderful, fun-filled, exciting and creative stories.

Not only kinds will love them, entertaining for everyone, because they written to entertain you. What more will you have from a book?

Very fun and entertaining for kids and for adults

A super fun and huge bundle for every Minecraft lover. I had a lot of fun reading this stories with my kid, the world of Minecraft is a wonderful setting for a short and entertaining story. The bundle has enough material to keep you busy for days. I recommend it sincerely.

Fun book to learn basic facts about space

Space. The final frontier.

Okay I couldn't resist. We are big fans of Star Trek, Star Wars and any kind of science fiction television show that are worthy of watching. Astronomy is something I would like to do more in the future but in the meantime I find it important to teach my kids about our solar system and the planets you can find in it.

I will note that this book is not creation based and does mention the Big Band and evolution thinking with the millions/billions of years. However, if you want your kids to be prepared for college/university and be able to understand both side of the coins, I find it extremely important that Christian homeschoolers use both theories to teach their kids. Besides, you can also find a ton of interesting information about space in this book.

The book starts with information about how big the space is, the Big Bang theory, as well as how the night sky look like when you are at different places on the planet. Then you get five sections which will highlights information on specific subjects.

Studying space - in this section you will learn more about telescopes
The Solar System - Our solar system is a wonder in itself. Explore the different planets and its star in this section.
Stars and Nebulae - Learn more about starts and nebulae in this section.
Galaxies - Discover galaxies throughout the universe.
Exploring Space - Learn more about spacecrafts, rockets, missions and the space station.
At the end of the book, you will also get a timeline of space exploration which can be handy when studying the history of space exploration as well as fun facts about space. A glossary and an index complete the book.

As I explored this book, I have learned that the ISS (International Space Station) makes 16 trips around the Earth in 24 hours, which means that astronauts on the station see 16 sunrises. I have seen stunning pictures of galaxies far away and of fabulous Nebulae. I have also learned that the Hubble Space Telescope is so sensitive that if two candles were places 6 1/2 ft (2 m)apart at 7,000 miles (11,265 km) away, it would see them both separately. I wonder how they made these calculations....

This fun little book is easy to carry when you go to an appointment in order to entertain your kids. Let them explore by themselves the space as they turn the pages of this book!

About the Author
Jeffrey Bennett, winner of the 2013 American Institute of Physics Science Communication Award, is an astrophysicist and educator who proposed the idea for and helped develop the Voyage Scale Model Solar System—the first science-oriented exhibit approved for permanent installation on the National Mall in Washington, DC. I love it so much it is part of a new program called Story Time From Space and we are sending it up to the Space Station for the astronauts to read to the children of Earth. It traces the continuum of what we knew about our earth and space in the past and how it developed into what we know today. The pictures, drawings and descriptions include extensive information written in terms that elementary school students will easily understand. The story will fascinate middle elementary school children, and the details will interest older students, adults and teachers. The book inspires you to think about how we see ourselves as part of the universe. Dr. Bennett expresses that if we see our place in the universe and how our knowledge has grown, we all may realize that there is no limit to what each person can do. This will inspire both children and adults. The book is enthralling, enlightening and educational. I, Humanity is an imaginative, enjoyable, and practical way to make sense of how we fit into our universe. The book is exceptional – every page is a delight to read.

Love this book

Love this book! The illustrations are so incredibly adorable, and the story unfolds with a lot of humor and some suprising sweetness on the part of all the characters at the end. Definitely recommend this! A fun family read for sure.

A fun debut with very clean language--a good gap book for those who are growing out of MG but not yet ready for YA.

I was privileged to read an ARC as Ryan Dalton is one of my JFP buddies. :) This review is cross-posted with what I wrote on Goodreads.

So, this is an interesting read for me as I'm a) not familiar with the genre, b) really not familiar with the genre, c) well, you get the point.

That said, it was a fun read, although in some parts it was confusing for me, which possibly is contributed to my unfamiliarity with the genre.

The theme of lightning was interesting, and the visuals accompanying it were reminiscent of Stephen King. I found myself almost disappointed when Dalton would continue to write about other things to, you know, make a story, because those visuals were really boss.

The language is extremely clean. I personally think the age group might be more appropriate for MG, especially those on the cusp of MG and YA since there are so few books for that age range. The length would provide a challenging read but not the drastic shift to some other, older YAs.

That said, there are a lot of YAs that have extremely foul language (mine included), and I suspect a lot of parents AND teens AND kids would appreciate a clean read.

Although a minor character, Fred was my favorite character because of his "dated" terminology, which was written very well... then made me sad... as I realize I still speak that way and maybe that's why my students humor me with "WTF, PROFESSOR?" smiles. He was absolutely charming in the way that Saul got his Breaking Bad spinoff (would read the crap out of a Fred-spinoff, btw).

Anyway, enjoyable read although I'm not familiar with the genre, and congrats to Ryan Dalton on having a great debut!

A satisfying treat that's well worth the time

How fantastic to find a new series that is so satisfying, funny, heartwarming, and smart. I laughed, I cried, I gasped...it was a wonderful adventure that I didn't want to end. The characters are expertly drawn and their interactions moving and authentic. Can't wait for the next book.

Electric debut from Ryan Dalton!

Couldn't put it down--the characters and plot pacing are fantastic! Perfect for both young and old alike--no language or innuendo, but still a great read for crusty old souls like myself. If you just want to enjoy a good yarn with some twists and turns, you can't go wrong with the adventures of Malcolm and Valentine in The Year of Lightning. The only issue I have is waiting for the second book!
