Adam lives and works with his eternally patient wife Caitlin and precocious daughter Lilly. Forever tinkering, Adam is constantly seeking new creative endeavors to sink his teeth into. His interests outside of family and podcasting include watching old commercials, trying to relive the 1980s, listening to his record collection, chauffeuring Lilly to dance class and soccer, failing miserably at fantasy football and drinking tea.

Solid information, but not a stand-alone resource

Good solid information. Although the book is a little short on details (especially in the audio editing department), the author notes that the book is not a how-to guide for making a podcast, but rather more of an inspirational platform to help you get to where you'll explore the ins and outs of podcasting on your own. I like that Duncan doesn't make money the overall metric for determining the success of a podcast, and he emphasizes the longer time commitment it takes to produce a quality podcast which stands out from the rest. The lack of five stars is only because of how short the book is--the author's tone is very positive and encouraging, but the book could have used a little more content to fill out the chapters. Still a good read and contains basic (but certainly not exhaustive) information for anyone who is thinking about starting a podcast.

Full disclosure, I have partnered with Adam Duncan on many ventures including hosting podcasts. This book is a helpful guide to creating a podcast. If you have been thinking about starting a podcast you will want this book to help light a fire and start producing a show you can be proud of. Even if you have experience you will still pickup something new, I'm one of those people. This is not one of those "how-to" books that eventually feel like a long sales pitch. Adam went through all of the pain of self-driven research and the experience of both success and failure to be able to write this book.

EZ is a great read

Epic Zero delivers again! Read this edition of EZ with an eye toward my 9 year old daughter we bith enjoyed the 1st Epic Zero and she told me recently she finds the "intense, in a good way" and i can tell her this one keeps the tension up. I found this a good follow up and it contines to build our main characters depth and introduce many interesting new characters. Looking forward to then next EZ.

I really love these books, and was so excited to see Ullman released another one. I bought the first book for my nephew for his birthday, but wound up fighting him over who got to finish it first! Super funny, very interesting, and definitely good for adults as much as kids. A fast and entertaining read. Maybe this time I'll be smarter and buy two at a time.

Mary Gover Gray, a native of Mattoon, Illinois, has lived her adult life in the Waukesha, Wisconsin area. She spent many years teaching in the primary grades in Wisconsin. Ms. Gray has an adult son, Nathan, and family in the Milwaukee area. Dixie, her standard poodle, was trained as a therapy dog and enjoyed obedience training as well. Fantasy Series For All Ages

I admit - I was skeptical about a girl being raised by a clan of badgers, but as an animal lover and someone who carries on conversations regularly with my cat (and wishes he could answer), I really enjoyed the characterization of the animals in this book and listening in on their conversations. Some of them were among my favorite characters and wriggled their way into my heart.

The author did a wonderful job of gradually bringing Ash from the world in which she was raised to human society and showing her heartbreak at leaving her badger family and the only world she's really known, her mistrust of 'two-legs', wonder at seeing new places and tasting unfamiliar foods, and struggle to fit into the human world.

I've only read a few stories with dragons, but I liked the author's different take on them and the idea that dragons may bond with a human. In this world, dragons equal power, so some power hungry people want what Ash has, but this story hints at an even bigger conflict to come in the next book.

As the first several chapters primarily involve Ash, Enat, and the badgers, I felt a little overwhelmed when nearly all the other characters are introduced at once and had some difficulty keeping them straight at first. The pacing is somewhat slower in the beginning when the students are attending lessons, but by the midpoint, it picks up considerably when a traitor is revealed and some characters become more skilled in the use of their magic.

The world-building is solid and the characters interesting and well-developed, although I hope the second book goes into more depth with some characters' backstories. Rising From the Ashes is a well-written novel that would appeal to all ages, not just YA.

Fast, Fun, Fictional Figment of Fantasy!

Caren Werlinger is a versatile and talented writer and story-teller, but this story knocked my socks off. If you like "When Women Were Warriors" by Catherine M.Wilson, The Harry Potter series, or How I trained my Dragon, I am pretty sure you will also fall rapidly into this great adventure. It's a parable-adventure-historical fantasy.
Heck, just read it.

Amazing YA fantasy/alternate history—with dragons!

When I started reading Rising From the Ashes, I was skeptical. Dragons in Ireland? I went straight to my favorite Irish myth expert, Ali Isaacs, who didn’t let me down. In her blog post, The Serpent in Irish Mythology, she recounts several stories of heroes battling dragons. And best of all, she mentions their Irish name—péista.

So when the young apprentice mage Ash meets the strange creature who tells her it’s name is Péist, I knew we were in for some fun. The story is an alternate history, a coming of age tale in the best fantasy traditions, complete with authentic historical details reminiscent of Monica Furlong’s classic Wise Child and Juniper, combined with the adventure and heroism of Robin McKinley’s Hero and Crown series.

Adopted by badgers (badgers!) as an infant after her village is destroyed by invaders, Ash survives because of her ability to communicate with animals. Although discovered and accepted as apprentice by mages, Ash and her new friends’ existence is threatened by the increasing influence of the Christianity introduced to Ireland by Saint Patrick in the fifth century.

Author CJ Werlinger treads a delicate path here, balancing between the magic lore taught and practiced by her fictional mages and the reality that we know the Christians were eventually successful. The young heroine isn’t a warrior, and her motives are to protect her friends, her forest, and the mysterious Péist. I admired the way Ash’s acceptance of her own vulnerability is both her protection and her strength. And I particularly liked the way she and Péist bond to form a union that is more than the sum of their parts.

The world building is wonderful. Not only do we get the strong sense of the realities of everyday life, but we also watch Ash grow into her own unique strengths and convictions. The tale begins slowly, and then moves ever faster as the threat grows for her little band of mage teachers and student apprentices. For the most part, characters were well-drawn and memorable. The voices of the various narrators were believable, whether told through the scent-focused badger, the displaced young girl, or the old woman with a lifetime of learning to share. The story arc is wrapped up beautifully, with just enough to introduce the new challenge that awaits in the next volume.

Although I did find it a bit difficult to accept how quickly Ash mastered what seemed complex magical concepts, that is really my only critique of the tale. I wouldn’t hesitate to give it five out of five stars for originality, strong voice, and a terrific concept. If I knew a YA reader looking for a story with a strong heroine, compelling story line, and (best of all!) dragons, I would recommend Rising from the Ashes. I know I’m looking forward to reading more of this promising series.

If you want your child to become a scientist - Buy this book!

love - love this book.

Obviously, author Keith Ownsby is a turtle enthusiast and he does an awesome job in transferring this enthusiasm into his book's readers.

Though this book is listed for grade level K-6, younger children will need assistance from older children or adults to read this book. The author presents some complicated words, younger students won't be able to read. That being said, parents and teachers will enjoy reading this book to children, it had me fascinated, even though 30 years ago I studied biology. Somehow, my professors must have presented turtles in a much more boring way.

Very cleverly, this author begins his book, "TURTLES: 15 Weirdest Turtles In The World!" by "making the case" for the turtle. In the famous fable,

"... the turtle is a lot wiser and a symbol of patience and wisdom. He finally did overtake the over smart Mr. R, only to be the town’s new found hero! You may be slow and steady but you’ll still win the race!..."

Undoubtedly, kids will feel good about this. Ownsby carries on by explaining interesting facts about turtles' skin, shell, where they live, what they eat, how they make babies, and that turtle babies need to be ready to go after they are being born, turtle moms won't take care of them.

This author's prose is appealing, he presents facts in a logical way which is bound to fascinate children.

"... The shell that encases the turtle is heavier than you think! This also means that just like humans inhale and exhale with the entire ribcage moving forward and backward, the turtle cannot do. Thus, they can either breathe through their mouths and via oscillations to the throat, the lungs of the turtle are able to draw in air.

Equally fascinating are the beautiful picture this author offers. I can see that he has gone through great efforts to present interesting material. Indeed, I spotted three turtles in this book I had never seen: the Cantor’s Giant Softshell Turtle, the Indian Flapshell Turtle, and the Matamata.

I also did not know that some turtles can live for over a year without food supply.

I love - love this book. I'd call it a must-read though parents run the danger that their child will want to have a turtle as a pet after having read this book. Keith Ownsby's book is that c o o l.

Been a Turtle Fan For Nearly 50 Years and I Did Like This Book!

Children's book brushes up on some basic facts about turtles at the onset including topics such as bodies, reproduction, food, and evolution before launching into the heart of the book - the 15 weirdest turtles! Given the photos provided it truly made me realize how strange a species this can be and had me searching the net afterwards for even more bizarre photos of the Eastern Long-Neck turtle, Chinese Soft Shell, and the African Helmeted turtle. Very good book and I did enjoy!

Fun, Simple Reference Guide to the "Doc McStuffins" Show

"Doc McStuffins: My World" is a nice, simple guide to the series that does a good job of providing some basic facts about the show while also offering a fun format and nice color spreads. This book was released in the show's third season, which means that it's able to provide coverage to some of the new aspects of the series that have been added since it began, such as the Docmobile and the Doc McStuffins Pet Vet Clinic. The book comes with over 100 stickers, many of which are intended to be used to fill in scenes on the book itself, others of which are just extras that are meant to be used anywhere the reader likes.

Overall, this is a pretty neat guide, though I was kind of hoping for something slightly more complex. The descriptions go into the basics of the various concepts of the show, but don't really go in depth. The reading level is clearly targeted towards the show's youngest fans. That said, I do still think this book is worth the price, and I even learned a couple of things, such as the occupation of Doc's dad and the function of one of the objects at the Pet Vet Clinic.

Dream on little dreamer......

This tender, beautiful little tale helps children realize how important it is to dream. It encourages children to share their visions and dreams with others around them so together they can make their dreams become a reality.

A special little Banty chicken goes out each night to talk to the moon about the dream that is placed deep inside her heart. The moon listens closely, smiles at the little chicken, and encourages her to find one special friend to share her dream with. The little Banty is afraid to tell any of her friends because she's frightened she may be laughed at.

The very next day, mustering up her courage, she seeks out her friend Squirrel and pours out her heart to her. Squirrel gets so excited and immediately wants to help little chicken's dream come true. TOGETHER they go from farm animal to farm animal who in turn gets on board the dream bus and wants to be part of her dream too. The rippling effect is contagious and then at the proper time, on that special night under the light of a spectacular full moon, it transpires. Happiness is living your dream and encouraging others to join in the fun.

The illustrations are colourful, detailed and dream-like. The positive uplifting message is perfect for classrooms or for home reads. There are bonus activities at the end of the book to inspire your child to look into their hearts and see what magical dreams may be planted there. I highly recommend this book.

Great Book for Any Parent of Younger Children

I received a promo copy of this book to read with my daughter and she absolutely loved it! She likes to sit with mom and read it herself. She even decided to take it to her school so that her teacher could see it - and she decided to read it to the class. The illustrations are great and the empowering message that Lynea Gillen has for children make this one of those books that you're glad kids have to read. I would recommend this to any parent of younger children from any background or faith. The message is strong and simple and one that kids and parents both can appreciate. What is that message? I don't want to spoil it, so you'll have to read it for yourself!

Kids won’t realize how much they are learning as they travel the land of Biome through the eyes of a skeleton.

This is the first book we’ve read from this author, and we got it mainly because my grandchildren are obsessed with Minecraft gaming. As an English teacher, I really want them to enjoy reading as much as they do video games, and this book has definitely helped with that mission. Not only is the storyline itself very attention-grabbing, the fact that it is set in the future also makes it a great read for today’s youth who are so enthralled with life in the future. As he describes Domino’s life in the Biome, Craft has a way with words that creates a vivid picture of the futuristic world. I particularly like that he uses some more complex phrasing that is often missing in youth fiction. It is easy to understand what is meant simply through the context of adventure which makes it a surprisingly educational read. Kids won’t realize how much they are learning as they travel the land of Biome through the eyes of a skeleton.

Adventure with Wenda the witch!

In this adventure, we follow Wenda the witch. She is collecting magical items when she is captured by the evil Arson Army. Along the way of she finds herself with new magical skills, and along with her allies she needs to learn to use them in order to escape the Arson Army and save her family and the Otherworld from the destruction of King Ghastly. Can she get it all done?

Bought this for my 7 year-old son, who loves playing Minecraft. Yet another story for him to be engrossed in by Mr. Craft. These books bring the joy of reading to my son. We can't wait for more stories for my son to read. These really encourage him to get better at reading!

Great story about wendy the witch wanting to be a machine builder. She has a run in with Sack from the last book and adventure starts to ensue. Love it. Yep getting these for my niece and nephew for Christmas.
