PreS-Gr 2-Little Banty Chicken has a grand dream of one day throwing a beautiful summer evening celebration for her farmer family, but she also thinks that because she is just one little chicken her dreams are too insignificant to make a difference. She does, however, have the courage to share her idea with her friend the moon, who encourages her to reach out to others as well. Once she does, the other animals come to embrace her vision and help to make it a reality. This story reads a bit like a classic folktale with rich full-page watercolor illustrations that lend themselves to that folksy feel. The story concludes with two simple exercises for children to expand their own thoughts on the concepts of friendship and dreams. Lynea Gillen has been a teacher and counselor for more than 30 years. She is the creator of Mindful Moments Cards, the DVD Kids Teach Yoga: Flying Eagle, and is the author of Good People Everywhere and Yoga Calm for Children. She lives in Portland, Oregon. Kristina Swarner is the award-winning illustrator of numerous books, including Before You Were Born, Enchanted Lions, and Good People Everywhere. She lives in Chicago.

Dream on little dreamer......

This tender, beautiful little tale helps children realize how important it is to dream. It encourages children to share their visions and dreams with others around them so together they can make their dreams become a reality.
A special little Banty chicken goes out each night to talk to the moon about the dream that is placed deep inside her heart. The moon listens closely, smiles at the little chicken, and encourages her to find one special friend to share her dream with. The little Banty is afraid to tell any of her friends because she's frightened she may be laughed at.
The very next day, mustering up her courage, she seeks out her friend Squirrel and pours out her heart to her. Squirrel gets so excited and immediately wants to help little chicken's dream come true. TOGETHER they go from farm animal to farm animal who in turn gets on board the dream bus and wants to be part of her dream too. The rippling effect is contagious and then at the proper time, on that special night under the light of a spectacular full moon, it transpires. Happiness is living your dream and encouraging others to join in the fun.
The illustrations are colourful, detailed and dream-like. The positive uplifting message is perfect for classrooms or for home reads. There are bonus activities at the end of the book to inspire your child to look into their hearts and see what magical dreams may be planted there. I highly recommend this book.

Fun Bedtime Story

This book contains beautiful illustrations and has a great story. This is a great book to bring your child to dream land. Not too short and not too long with a great story.

Great Book for Any Parent of Younger Children

I received a promo copy of this book to read with my daughter and she absolutely loved it! She likes to sit with mom and read it herself. She even decided to take it to her school so that her teacher could see it - and she decided to read it to the class. The illustrations are great and the empowering message that Lynea Gillen has for children make this one of those books that you're glad kids have to read. I would recommend this to any parent of younger children from any background or faith. The message is strong and simple and one that kids and parents both can appreciate. What is that message? I don't want to spoil it, so you'll have to read it for yourself!
