Beautiful Coloring Art for Teens and Adults! Emma does it again! AAA+++

My daughter has been hooked on coloring and one of her favorites is Emma Andrews. This new book by Emma, is filled to the brim with a variety of repeating shape designs. They all fill the entire page and it is really nice, especially for coloring.

We purchased Emma's Christmas book Adult Coloring Books: Christmas Delight and it is spectacular! We also have the Valentine's Heart design book Adult Coloring Books: Valentine Hearts, since she loves hearts!!!!!

If you get the printed version, I would recommend using a safety sheet underneath, if you're going to be using markers. My daughter uses mostly pencils and the sheets are excellent for that. This one we got in the Kindle format and it includes (As all of Emma's books do) a printable Adobe PDF file.

Emma came out with (3) of these type of books, released all on the same day and they all have different designs. This book had a total of (50) different designs, so GOOD JOB, Emma!

This book is page after page of beautiful, bold and relaxing designs!!! I have included some pics for you to see some of the designs, Hope it Helps:)

In some images, crowds of dancers and musicians create a swirl of animated motion; in others, Parker sets Tatum, who was nearly blind, against a deep, moody, abstract background of shifting colors. About the Author
Robert Andrew Parker has illustrated numerous acclaimed books for children, including the Caldecott Honor Book Popcorn and Ma Goodness by Edna Mitchell Preston, the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award winner Cold Feet by Cynthia DeFelice, and Action Jackson by Jan Greenberg and Sandra Jordan, which received six starred reviews and was named a Robert F. Sibert Honor Book. Mr. Parker is a jazz musician. He lives in West Cornwall, Connecticut.

The Boyhood of a Prodigy

A book that tells of the childhood of the great jazz piano player, Art Tatum (1909-1956), who, though stricken with blindness when very young, went on to become a keyboard wonder. Beautifully illustrated and sensitively written, it fills you with joy and an urge to listen, or re-listen, to a miraculous musician.

This book, written in a gentle, sing song tone was very inspiring!

Art Tatum was a little boy born in Toledo. His father was a mechanic and his mother, who loved to sing in church, did a lot of cleaning. His mother played the piano, but mostly it sat "quietly in the corner," until one day he became tall enough to hit the keys on the keyboard. He banged at it, played with one finger, two fingers and before you could wink an eye it started to sound very good. Even his mother said it did. He loved to play on the piano and didn't care much about night or day and because his eyes were so bad he really couldn't tell the difference.

"Don't wear out that piano today," his father said to him before he left for work. Art just loved his piano. By the time he was ten he was asked to play in church. A little case of jitters immediately went away when he touched the keyboard. Later he was asked to play at the YMCA, then at a bake sale and even someone's birthday party. "My, my, isn't he something," his mother gushed. More and more he was asked to play until he became famous, but he still remembered and loved "all the people who helped" him.

This was a wonderful story. It was written in a gentle, sing song tone and was quite inspiring. The watercolors meshed quite well with the text. In the back of the book Robert Andrew Parker writes about actually meeting and listening to Art play. There is a brief, but very interesting biography of art and a bibliography. This book would be very appealing to any jazz fan and will be appreciated and loved even by those unacquainted with his work.

The story of Art Tatum has been told too rarely -- it's a delight to have this wonderful book written by an impassioned author. Even more amazing is the gorgeous artwork, also done by Mr. Parker. Strongly recommended.

As a licensed Marriage Family Therapist, I highly recommend Jennifer Allen's book for anyone helping a child experiencing the serious illness of a loved one. The age appropriate words and gentle pictures can help children identify and talk about the myriad of conflicting and confusing feelings that accompany impending grief and loss. A wonderful book for a therapists shelf, as well.

VERY HELPFUL GRIEF BOOK FOR CHILDREN

This beautifully written and illustrated book for children deals with the experience for a child facing the loss of a parent. As a grief therapist I am aware of few books written from a child's point of view that address this important subject. I highly recommend this lovely book.

Excellent Book! A Tearjerker!

In this book, Mary Anne's house burned down due to faulty kitchen wiring. She's very upset and in total shock. She loved the colonial farmhouse she moved to with her father after his marriage to Dawn's mother. Mary Anne loses almost everything during the fire. Her clothes, books, diaries, letters, pictures, etc. are gone, but she found some jewelry, her mom's picture, and her recent diary. Even though I've never liked Dawn, I'm glad she came to CT to comfort her family. Dawn was pretty upset about the fire. Even though she mostly hated CT, she loved the old farmhouse, the barn, and the secret passage. (the barn didn't burn down, but the secret passage from her room is gone!) I'm glad that Mary Anne finally cried about the fire, after her long shellshocked spell and she's hoping for some positive changes in her future. She doesn't want to move to Philidelpia, where her dad was offered a new job there. It's great that Kristy and her family took in Mary Anne and her parents and that the club and other neighbors comforted and donated lost items from the fire. It was a great book, but I cried my eyes out when Mary Anne lost her house and felt lost. I think she's a strong, brave girl who dealt with a lot of tough events in her life. I'm glad that Mary Anne, her dad, her stepmom, and her cat Tigger got out of the house safely. During a house fire, the number one thing is to get people out of the house and not try to save possessions. I give this book a 10.

Realistic

I know just how Mary-Anne feels. Our house burned down a year ago. I lost everything-including old letters (I'm like Mary-Anne and, the worst, pictures and things of my older brother, whom died when I was 7. So I know it was really hard for Mary-Anne. I cry when I read this book and I feel like Mary-Anne and I are crying together.But life goes on and changes happen-to Mary-Anne and the whole BSC (And We Love Kids Club too!)

If you liked Dawn's 3rd diary, read about her sister....

I've been reading the BSC series for about seven years now. While I like California Diaries, I always knew Ann M. Martin would put some life into the BSC plots again. AND SHE HAS! The Fire at Mary Anne's House was even better then Dawn, Diary Three! In the last book of the BSC series, Mary Anne's house burns down. She has nowhere to live and feels so sad. Even her friends rallying around her doesn't help. Poor Mary Anne! This book made me cry, especially the ending (which I won't give away) Just read the book! I'm telling you that this is better then all of Ann's books combined! I'm pretty sad that this is the last book of the Baby-sitters' Club series. But I'm looking forward to new more young adult changes in the Baby-sitters' Club: Friends Forever series. Who knows? Now we may like both California Diaries AND the BSC. I know I sure do!

We have to find out who is ruining sixth grade. Like, now! Well, at least the criminal activity has taken the focus off my lack of bra ownership. Sigh. I have to go. I’ll write again soon. Promise.

Judith Natelli McLaughlin grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey. Two of her favorite past times were reading and writing. She wrote and illustrated her first book at the age of seven. "The Bunny and The Eggs" is a first edition classic bound with masking tape and treasured forever. At Ralph S. Maugham School she discovered Shel Silverstein's poetry and Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. Her hunger for reading and writing was forever fed. She graduated from Maugham, moving up to Tenafly Middle School, then Tenafly High School and finally Villanova University. She graduated Villanova in 1987 with degrees in English and Honors. Currently she lives in Millburn, New Jersey with her husband, Brian, her three daughters, Katie, Lindsay and Maggie and a West Highland White Terrier named Duke.

It starts like any other year

For those of us who grew up reading the works of Beverly Cleary and Marissa Moss, Judith McLaughlin’s Dear Diary, E.P. Thompson Here is a callback to our roots.
Emily Paul Thompson is anxious to chronicle her sixth grade experience in the diary her mother gave her. It starts like any other year: the dreamy boy, the best friend, the physical changes (or lack thereof). Then, things start going wrong. Emily’s best friend ditches her. She’s paired with the class pariah for a project. And somebody has started stealing money and supplies from the school. While Emily finds closure in writing her secrets down, she knows that, sooner or later, her words will have to become actions.
McLaughlin has struck the perfect middle grade voice–two parts innocent charm, one part confusion and discovery. She introduces thought-provoking subject matter in a Romona Quimby voice, which holds the potential for discussion among children and adults alike. Reading Dear Diary is one of life’s simple pleasures, a reminder of the joys and pitfalls of junior high–and that people are not always who you expected them to be.

It's a fast read and I really think that preteen girls will enjoy it. I liked it

We don't have enough books out there for kids to read that aren't pushing them to be older than they are. This book gives us that. So this is your typical middle-grade book. Something important to note is that the whole book is E. P.'s diary. It's a fast read and I really think that preteen girls will enjoy it. I liked it, but I didn't love it. I think it's because, since it is through a diary we lose so much. We get bits and pieces of the story, but not the whole picture. Part of reviewing a book is having to look at it through the eyes on the intended audience and at times that's hard. For the genre it works, but I think it could be more. I think that the kids that will read, will enjoy, but will be looking for more. Do I recommend it for preteens, yes. It's a clean, there's no language and it's appropriate for the age. So get it. We were given a copy in exchange for a honest review.

About the Author
Chiu Kwong-chiu is an artist, designer, and professor who explores Chinese traditional visual arts and adopts groundbreaking methods to interpret and promote Chinese art and culture. He founded the CnC Design and Cultural Studies Workshop in Hong Kong, where he provides guidance and leadership in the research, interpretation, and promotion of traditional and contemporary design and Chinese culture. He wrote the book In the Forbidden City, also released as part of the We All Live in the Forbidden City series.

The Life of an Emperor for Kids

As a homeschool mom of a 3rd grader, it can be be very difficult to find age-appropriate information about the Emperors of China. I was pleased to find this book! It gives a kid-friendly look into the life of an emperor, in turn sharing a lot of Chinese history and culture.

Great Resource, Wish it Were Serialized

We received this awhile back in exchange for an honest review and it took us awhile to get through it – not because it isn’t brilliant, but because it is long, especially for a kids’ picture book.

The information is fantastic, the pictures fun. But What Was It Like, Mr. Emperor? should have been serialized.

It wouldn’t be hard to do as there are already mini chapter-like breaks. Kids like my own five year old would respond better to it being shorter titles that they could collect like a series as opposed to reading bits of the same book each night. Ultimately, it’s the same amount of reading for the same amount of time, but kids see it differently for some reason, and they tend to like to collect things anyway.

We loved all the tidbits about Life in China’s Forbidden City, but as a customer, reader, mother, author, bookseller, reviewer, and someone who possesses a BBA in Marketing, I think there could be a lot more money into turning this title into a series of smaller books.

(I definitely recommend this for homeschool moms to keep on hand in their home library.)
