Sometimes, You Have to Say No

In this fourteenth installment of the popular SVH series, Liz Wakefield finds herself struggling with a dilemma: does she accept a dinner date with a guy who has just moved into town or does she turn him down? Mind you, she has a steady boyfriend that she loves dearly, so you can see the problem. Being the super-nice girl that she is, she decides to accept. Of course, her decision nearly costs her her relationship with her boyfriend. Now, I realize that Liz only accepted the date because she didn't want to hurt the other guy's feelings, but in the process, she hurt her own boyfriend. I know she was just trying to be nice, but if I had been in her shoes, I would have just told the guy no. Sometimes, being nice means having to say NO.

Elizabeth hates to say No

Nicholas Morrow who's sister had the party in Kidnapped! wants to take Elizabeth out on a date,but she informs him that she already has a steady boyfriend. Jessica wants Nicholas Morrow as a boyfriend,and she calls Nicholas Morrow her boyfriend in the book.I wish guys were easy to come to me as they are to her.My fiancee isn't good looking. When She goes on a date with Nicholas to Cote d'or, Todd and his family are there because it is his mother's birthday,and Todd told Jessica he saw Elizabeth and Nicholas there.

It was ok.

It wasn't the best book I've read, but it was ok. Liz Wakefield's getting over her kidnapping ordeal, and then she meets rich handsome Nicholas Morrow. Nicholas is nice, caring, intelligent, all that stuff. Then Nicholas asks Liz out, & soon it gets into a big tangled web. Kind of shallow if you ask me. Remind me a lot of soap operas.

THIS TIME TOVI’S OFF TO AN ADVENTURE AT THE BEACH WITH HIS PENGUIN FRIENDS

I enjoy being a Book Reviewer who doesn’t accept requests to review books. I either get books I’m interested in reading myself or I enter giveaways and I hope I win the book I’d like to read/review. This time I won this book from a LibraryThing giveaway and the following is my honest opinion.

I also find it refreshing to be able to just sit back in my reclining chair and allow my inner child the opportunity to read a book and then tell me what it taught of it. In this book, Tovi and his penguin friends decide to spend a day at the beach where they found a wonderful location, underneath a tree so it would give them shade from the hot sun. The only thing they did not expect had been the ocean tide coming in and separating them from the rest of the beach by surrounding them with water.

While the story is quite entertaining for its early beginner readers it’s also unsuspectingly educational as well. This is one of the best ways to reach these young minds for they can better relate to the characters in the book and the lesson/information being given. In this book, which is part of a series of Tovi’s adventures, readers are given information about tides, and are also taught about disappointments/sharing.

The wonderful illustrations on each page help its readers visualized the story and is why I’m giving this book 5 STARS.

Cute and sweet!

I’m a firm believer that in order to appreciate books, we need to read a little bit of everything. For me, yes that even means kid books! My kids are all older, but still enjoy sillier “little kid” books. It’s also helpful for my older daughter, Odie. She’s 16 and she often volunteers for child care duties with her Girl Scout Troop. She can sort through the bunch on my kindle at any time, and pick one out to read to the little ones. Even though she’s not an avid reader like myself, she does love to read to kids. She loves being able to do different voices for them and engage them in some fun.

That was my main reason on picking this particular Tovi book to read. It’s geared more towards the ages of 2-6. It’s a simple picture book that follows the adventure of Tovi and friends through several books. I loved that it was not a one shot idea for a book, and it continues. As any child grows, repetition is key in learning. It also helps if you introduce a particular character they grow to love.

I loved that Tovi and friends were all penguins, going to the beach. I think it goes to show that it doesn’t matter who you are, life is pretty enjoyable! A good lesson as well is being aware of your surroundings. They were so excited to play and enjoy themselves, they missed out on a clue or two that might hinder their day of fun in the sun.

The pictures were all nicely done and weren’t really “flat” so to speak. There is a bit of texture and the bold colors are both great sensory stimulators. The book also reads in a landscape view on your eReader.

Even though some of my musings about the book may allude to a broader lesson than what the author intended, they are ones you can take and run with. Janina follows up the book at the end with some cute personal photos a great choice of other books and the very last page that every kid loves to end with. But of course “The End!”!

I give this one 5 out of 5 stars!

I am going to Florida soon . I now have plans about what to take with me. I live in Loveland Colorado and have not been to the beach. Playing in the sand looks fun.

Teaching The Importance Of Friendship

I received a copy of this e-book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This book started as a story of a very spoiled girl. She would yell and scream and then hold her breath to get her way. Her parents finally let her just hold her breath until she passed out. After she passed out, she was transported to the world where nursery rhymes live. While there, she learns that she is a lot like a person the whole kingdom has been waiting for. Will she stay and help save them from Old King Krool or will she return to her home. During her deciding process, she learns more about herself than she expected. I found this to be a great book. It would be fun to read to any child but I think it would be especially helpful for those who have a hard time dealing with others.

Read this book! An amazingly clever and spirited story of an eleven-year-old brat named Elspeth Pule who is transported into a world of nursery rhyme characters looking to overthrow King Krool and regain their rightful place in the kingdom. The characters developed from nursery rhyme subjects come to life to create hilarity and unexpected twists and turns. Three blind mice called Earl Grey, Barry White and James Brown; a talking stick and my favourite, a talking wheel of cheese! The Cheese stands alone! Elspeth's journey from tyrant to leader will inspire readers and have them cheering for her and her army as they try to win back the castle and get Elspeth back home. Written with a terrific combination of wit, humor and excitement, it's a fast-paced read that will entrance boys and girls alike. Read this book!

What a great book! Elspeth Pule is a spoiled brat that finds herself in the land of nursery rhymes. Some of the characters she meets are Humpty Dumpty, the 3 blind mice, and Little Bo Peep. All the characters have been reimagined and they lead Elspeth on a wild, hilarious adventure. Kids will love this book. I did!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this series. Dystopian with Adventure, Mystery, Time Travel, Futuristic Technology, and World Events.

Want to start out this review by saying that I LOVED THIS SERIES. I found it well researched, well written, with a solid plot, excellent grammar, believable as well. Scarily believable. Each of the 3 books delivers good value in terms of story depth and a continuous plot line that won't disappoint. Originally I began reading the first book because I wanted to review it for my grandchildren who are 11 and 12. Won't send them anything with sex scenes. This series has a robbery scene that is necessary to the story line. The love story is very soft and completely acceptable for pre teens.

Shortly into the book I realized I was hooked. Am 64, female, tech savvy. Would love to see this series as a movie. If you have enjoyed any of the following books, you will also enjoy this series: Harry Potter, The Time Travelers Wife (Audrey Niffenegger,) The Time Machine (HG Wells,) 100 Cupboards series (N.D. Wilson.), and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Ransom Riggs.)

This series to me combined Dystopian with Adventure, Mystery, Time Travel, Futuristic Technology, and World Events. My grandchildren are reading these now and they absolutely love the first book. Will update my review when they are done with al 3 books.

A great trilogy from a fantastic author.... can't wait for the next trilogy!!!

The worst thing I had during my reading of this trilogy was waiting for the next book to come out so I could continue to follow the gripping story. Thankfully the author has addressed this issue by releasing the trilogy boxset!!! This being the worst part about reading these books is definitely the best praise you can give a set of books!!

The trilogy is a very clever imagining of the dystopian future that could be facing the country should global warming cause the sea levels to rise. An amazing sci fi collection mixing together futurology, imagining what our tech landscape will look like as well as our actual landscape and the political climate. It has a fairly dark undertone which hopefully should remind the reader that this could be our future unless we actually act to stop the onslaught of global warming. I particularly enjoyed the blurring of the lines being reality and virtual reality.

A fantastic trilogy from this new author. I am looking forward to reading her next series of books

This is an amazingly good series which is also very well-written. I loved science fiction when I was younger. I've been away from it for many years, busy doing other things. My passion for the past n many years is really good epic fantasy, which is, unfortunately, quite rare. But this series has brought me back to the sci fi fold. Thank you so much, Jule Owen. Your books nourish my soul. And double my reading selection. I'm beginning to see that sci fi and epic fantasy are quite closely related. I literally gobbled your first 3 books down and am holding my breath for #4. You write sci fi, but you also write epic fantasy! So possibly my yearning for more really good epic fantasy leads right back to where I started - sci fi. Thanks so much for the insight. In my humble estimation, this series is another must read similar to 1984.

About the Author

Samantha Snyder has been doodling her whole life. While teaching elementary school, she often drew up coloring pages and printables for her students and fellow teachers. She decided to start sharing her creations and in 2008, Doodle Art Alley was founded.

Doodle Art Alley is dedicated to giving those squiggly lines the proper credit they deserve. Who would have thought that such a small and simple idea could possess so much potential?

50 Fun to Color and Whimsical Hand-Drawn Animals – printed on one side of the page

[[VIDEOID:cb8babfe1ec378ce8a87b7b22c87c5a2]]I have a lot of fun coloring Samantha Snyder's designs. She is able to bring a real sense of whimsy to the 50 animals designs in this book. She does a little bit of “doodles” within each of them but not to the point of being tiny and intricate and hard to color. I find that I can finish one of these designs fairly quickly in an hour or so while watching (really listening) to a television show. I love using markers for bright and bold colors that make the animals jump off the page.

The animals are generally placed in a setting that is appropriate but which has still has the fun and comical feel as the animal. At the end of this review, I will list the animal designs included in the book.

The coloring book is a smaller format than most other coloring books. That seems to be the style of the Doodle Art Alley books. I like it for these designs as they are well centered on the page without dead space around them.

The designs are printed on one side of bright white non-perforated paper. The binding is glued rather than sewn, so you can cut pages out if you choose to do so. I was able to break the spine enough to get the book to lay fairly flat and it was easy to get to all parts of the design to color.

Each of the designs has a framing line around them. This seems to be the style of this artist. I appreciate it as it gives me a natural stopping point, saving me time and ink.

I test all of my coloring books with various types of coloring medium (which I will list in the comments section below.) Here are the results of my tests:

All of my markers (water and alcohol-based, fine, ultra-fine, and brush end) bled through this paper. My India ink brush pen also bled through. My gel pens (all brands and nib sizes) all left a color shadow on the back of the page. My coloring pencils worked well for their lead type. The soft lead blended really well. The hard lead left indents at the page of the page if I pressed hard when coloring.

When using markers, I cut down a piece of chipboard and place it beneath my working page to keep the ink from leaking through and marring the page below.

The animals in this coloring book include: alligator, anteater, bird, bison, blowfish, bugs, camel, cat, cow, dinosaur, dog, dolphin, dragon, dragonflies, duck, eagle, elephant, flamingo, fox, frog, giraffe, hedgehog, hermit crab, iguana, jellyfish, kangaroo, kiwi, lemur, meerkat, house, owl, panda, peacock, penguin, pig, porcupine, rabbit, raccoon, rhinoceros, seahorse, shark, sheep, skunk, snail, tiger, turtle, unicorn, walrus, and zebra.

~~ 50 simpler designs for those who love to color ~~

I actually purchased this book for our nine year old daughter who LOVES to color. Of course when it arrived I had to "try" it out! (See pic.) With the designs in this book not being so filled in as some of the other adult coloring books out there, it does not take the same length of time to complete a picture. For busy moms (and kids) this keeps things fresh. I was able to finish this picture in between schooling the kids.

There are 50 different animal pictures featured in alphabetical order. Each picture is on its own page i.e. the back is plain. Paper is white and the size of each image box (not page) is 7" x 7". Although marketed as an Adult Coloring Book I think the author/artist is missing out on a massive audience by not marketing this to youngsters. In my opinion the images in this book are more "kid" appealing than "adult".

Anything I would like to see different? Yes! Perforated pages please so that when completed the "artist" at home can display their work by tearing out the page easily. OR as in our case, where two or more are coloring it would be nice to be able to tear the pages out easily before starting to color.

Some of the animals are obvious, others a little more obscure so it would be nice to have the titles under the picture. Just so you know I took several pictures of the pages but the one I colored is "Bugs".

Overall a great book and I know our daughter will have many hours of pleasure using it. Thanks, Liz

Fun, whimsical, animals to color with just the right amount of complexity for me!

This is a nice collection of animal designs, with a wide variety of animals A-Z.

I tend to like designs to color with some detail, but not so detailed that you lose your patience and eyesight. So I prefer less complex designs, as in this book. Most of the animals are centered on the page with some background details around them, so it isn't too intimidating for me. I easily finished my page(see my photos) in one evening. I think these animals will appear to young and older people--they are cute and whimsical, but not juvenile.

Features of the book:
-50 designs are on the front of the page only--nothing on the back
-Crisp, clean line art (I hate it when the lines are blurry)
-8.5x8.5” Bright white paper--the same as all the Amazon Createspace publications.
-Pages are not perforated
-Designs are suitable for markers (some pages will require a fine tip), colored pencils, and gel pens.
-Crayons will work for even some of the images.
-Markers may bleed through, so use a blank page as a "color protector page".
-Glossy front and back covers

Overall, this book provides some really charming animal designs, and should keep you busy coloring for many days!
