Teaching Children with a beautiful portrait of Istanbul.

I have always believed that the world of travel is the most valuable tool we have to bring people and cultures together. We may all speak different languages, live in lands that we don’t understand, and even worship different religions. But down deep in ways we can’t often comprehend, we are all the creations of a Supreme Being and hold to the same commandments of our existence: hope, compassion, and love.

Lovely depiction of the beauty of Istanbul and its' people.

I have been living and teaching in Istanbul for a year and a half and am constantly on the lookout for some good picturebooks that I can share with my grandson and other young friends back home in the U.S. that depict the beauty of Istanbul and its' people. This book does a very nice job of presenting a simple but informative story of everyday life in Istanbul for an intergenerational family. There are attractive and accurate pictures; and I liked the placement of the text making it easy to follow the story. Well done!

Delightful and endearing story!

This is such a delightful book! My grandchildren (age 3 and 6) loved the pictures of the birds and the little children playing and enjoyed following the hero, a little boy, on one special day in his home in Istanbul. I appreciated the book's depiction of Middle Eastern culture and Islamic worship. The audio version contains links to cats mewing, birds cooing and the call to prayer, which really bring the story to life--and both versions contain a thorough glossary. The book also features beautiful pictures of Istanbul and its architecture, especially the Yeni Mosque. In this time of intolerance and divisiveness, I'm so glad to share a story with my kiddos of another grandparent and his little one that reveals just how much we all have in common.
