I recently purchased The Dragon's Disguise trilogy by Todd Henderson, and the books were such a hit with my 5 year old Godson that I knew I had to have this new book as well. As soon as he saw this book, he took off with it into his room to read it. This book also features a unique "hero", in this case a unicorn with a unique horn. The book is 36 pages, just the perfect amount to hold a child's interest. The book is geared to children 3-7 years, although older children will enjoy it as well I believe. The illustrations are full color, and made the words on the pages come to life. The author again used rhyme which I find works wonderfully for the young, because they can sound out words and also they love the sing-song way adults read it to them. Rhyming texts are especially restrictive, with only a limited number of page,.the author has to move the plot forward efficiently and keep it concise and precise. And of course, adding conflict and drama and a nicely rounded ending. Todd Henderson does all of that superbly.
I love the thought provoking and dialogue starting questions at the end of each book. Six questions in each book that touch on aspects of the book, and give the reader and child an avenue to discuss ideas. I look forward to reading more of his excellent books!

[[VIDEOID:6be219fe9fa185cbd2bc10985e744432]]How many times do kids come home from school or from playing and their feeling are hurt or filled with questions as to why they are not like the other kids. I know I struggled with this with my kids and my grandchildren are now struggling with it today.
The Unicorn With a Unique Horn is a great book that deals with this issues. It's hard for children to understand but this book does a great job of explaining and helping them to understand that everybody is different, that people are different but that they all want to be accepted and loved for who they are.
The book is about a unicorn with a unique horn, her unicorn horn didn't look like all the other unicorns horns therefore she couldn't go to a ball that they all were going to and they made fun of her and made her run away. When she runs away she comes upon the king Peep who makes her horn feel special and lets her see the magic in herself of being different.
I am really happy with this book and everything that it explains. The book is fun to read, full of great illustration and written for the child to understand the story and the meaning. I did receive a complimentary issue and I am providing my honest unbiased opinion.

Be different

The moral of this story, not everyone is perfect. Not everyone is the same. We are all unique and different. What better lesson to teach our little ones. I love the moral and love the way this book uses it to make a great story about a unicorn. My kids love to hear and read it over and over again.
