Fantastic Bible for Tween/Teens

The Big Dreams, Big Prayers Bible for kids is a hardbound NIV children's bible and is recommended for ages 9-12. Upon opening the Bible you have a color photo that has all the books of the Bible listed and labeled (law, history, poetry, etc) which is very helpful in my opinion. For kids, it's nice having the color coated chart for the books of the bible.
Big Dreams, Big Prayers Bible for Kids isn't just a Bible. It is also filled with devotions, prayers and highlighted verses to help teach kids how to pray and listen for God's answers to their prayers. The devotions are about people who prayed and listened to God such as Abraham, Hannah and Job.
At the beginning of every book is a page that tells more information on that particular book. It has who wrote it, why it was written and even some of the stories that can be found in that book. My eight-year old has really enjoyed reading these beginning pages and learn more about the books of the Bible. The chapters are easy to navigate. The pages are very clean and the chapters are very clearly marked. Also throughout this Bible you will find highlighted verses. These verses are marked because they reveal specific words about conversations with God. They are perfect for memorizing and for remembering what it means to talk to God.
Throughout the Bible you'll find beautiful color pages like:

Good tool to begin teaching our kids

As a father of two, I'm always seeking ways to encourage my children to seek the Lord. The greatest example I can give my children is a father who continually is communing with the Most High. The Big Dreams, Big Prayers Bible for Kids helps me to show my children a biblical view of prayer, but more importantly gives them opportunity to participate in that divine communion.
As I read through the text with my oldest, currently Acts, she is very perceptive to what's going on and is in a never-failing question mode. I understand that fathers, and mothers, may use this insert as a crutch and only say the selected prayers and nothing more. I see it as a launching point to guide my children's thoughts to a fuller understanding of the theological implications made through prayer.
Before you comment about my parenting, I want to make a note here. This Bible, and many like it, are certainly great for helping children know and understand what they are reading. How can one understand the dire expression of remorse Ezra made before his people, or the prayer which David most assuredly prayed while on his face before God? We need help, but the help must be used as a scaffolding and not as the permanent structure.
What I mean to say is that, though the helps in this Bible are great for my 6 year old child, she must not learn to rest alone on the helps but instead be renewed by the Word as she continues to be transformed by the Holy Spirit. I'm grateful that there are helps for dads like me. Though my library holds 300+ Reformed volumes, I must continually train my child in the way they are to go.This Bible has had some part in allowing me to do that and I am eternally grateful that products like this are out there for dads like me.
The language of the NIV is easily understandable and does not confuse my daughter. She has her own version which she loves and as an aid, I thought the prayer helps in this volume would help her. As I listen to her pray I can tell that some of what I am sharing from this volume is having an effect. Sure I would love for her to spurt out some Jonathan Edwards, but I must begin where she's at. The The Big Dreams, Big Prayers Bible helps me to do that.

I'm so pleased with this new Bible from Zonderkidz. The text is from the New International Version (NIV) which is a normal thing for a Bible from Zonderkidz. What sets it apart is that all of the features throughout the Bible focus on prayer.
Prayer is a major tenet of our faith and we spend a lot of time teaching our children about it. The Big Dreams Big Prayers Bible For Kids is such an asset in our family to point out how important it is to incorporate prayer into our daily lives.
From the devotions to the highlighted verses to the extra pages of visually appealing graphics the theme of prayer is carried throughout with the intent of not only teaching children about prayer but also empowering them to incorporate it into their lives.
One of the pages has a visual of a hand and gives a list of five things that you should pray for each day. Thumb: People closest to you. Pointer: People who point the way (leaders, teachers, pastors). Tall Finger: People in authority. Ring Finger: People who are weak. Little Finger: Yourself. You could easily use that model with your children. What a perfect way to teach them to use their prayer time for more than a selfish wish list. How great would it be to have our kids praying for those around them?!!
There is also a very doable reading plan in the back of the book. It is broken down into three different courses. Course 1 is an introduction to the Bible and it spends two weeks each on the Life and Teachings of Jesus, the Life and Teachings of Paul, and finally an overview of the Old Testament. The second course is a Guided Tour Of The Bible. Your child will spend 180 days getting a sweeping look at the Bible from Creation to Revelation. Finally Course 3 is designed for your child to read Every Word In The Bible. A chapter a day is assigned (two chapters are sometimes combined if they are short) with the goal of reading through the entire Bible in three years.
My favorite feature of this new Bible is the Prayer Journal in the back of the book. There is space for your child to list their prayers to God and to also record the answers from God. Wouldn't this make a wonderful keepsake years from now. It would be such a great testimony to God's faithfulness in the big things, little things, and the everyday things.
If you are looking for a new Bible to take your older child to the next level of daily Bible reading and prayer this is an excellent choice.
